TDI is produced from Toluene via nitration to Dinitro toluene (DNT). DNT is continuously hydrogenated to Toluene diamine (TDA). The unwanted ortho isomers (OTD) are removed by distillation to give meta Toluene diamine (MTD) All isomers of TDI are colourless, although commercial samples can appear yellow.
